How the site looks and how the board behaves. These are kept in this browser only — they are never uploaded, and they are not part of any report, so a different browser or a private window starts from the defaults again.
Theme
Dark is the default. Light uses the same layout with the palette turned over.
Board sounds
Moves, captures, castling and promotions each have their own sound. Check and checkmate add a stronger accent on top, so compound actions such as a capture that gives check sound like everything that happened. Sounds are generated by the browser, so nothing is downloaded and they work offline.
Volume
Click any sound below to hear it, whether sounds are on or off.
Piece animation
Whether a piece slides to its new square or simply appears there. The slide is short on purpose: long enough to see what moved, short enough not to slow you down.
The sound and animation settings are also reachable from the ⚙ in the corner of any board.
